Asus Express gate

Just built my new machine. The mobo is the P5Q Pro and it comes with the Asus Expressgate software. This is not to be confused with the emmbedded linux chip that iirc is not actually out in the wild yet but an installable light linux that alledgedly boots in 5 to 10 seconds. I have not installed it yet but will be and will report back soon.It only really covers messaging and internet and allows easy access to bios and also OS options (although they are there anyway) but its a new gimmick

Page takes a while though

Re: Asus Express gate

I was wrong about this it does work and it is the bios embedded linux however the irony you do need an installed OS to install the programs user storage files. I thought the bonus about this was a test enviroment but its not

10 seconds to boot to a userble environment so it does do what it says but the fact you have to install a utility makes it a little bit of a waste

Re: Asus Express gate

You'd have thought Flash Memory being so cheap these days they'd have planted a couple of GB near the BIOS chip on the motherboard

Re: Asus Express gate

Flash memory might be cheap, but the vendors are even cheaper

Less work for them and more for the end user.

Re: Asus Express gate

Sounds an interesting idea. Maybe they will build on it and later versions will offer more functionality.

which imo makes this useless . They should have put say 1 gig to hold settings and a couple of test programs and this would have been wicked but to have to install a hdd and windows then an app itself to get it working renders it pointless. Once they do it will be ideal to test a system thats bare
