Blackberry Config
Hi all,
Anybody here had any experience with Blackberry's?
Tomorrow I'm going to a site where I need to replace one with another model.
They have BES server and I can access it, etc but I just need to know the basic steps to swap over the unit and get it sending / receiving mail from an Exchange server....

Re: Blackberry Config
you would have to authenticate the new unit with the bes server via a password, can take an hour or sometimes even longer for this to work.
not totally experienced with them but at work they use the critters alot and starting to learn bout them a bit.

Re: Blackberry Config
So far, thankfully, we've managed to steer clear of these little blighters - I have a horrible feeling they're not far off though.
Sorry I can't be of any help

Cool - thanks for that - any ideas how I go about authenticating the device?
I assume it's through the BES Manager software....?

Re: Blackberry Config
The way i set them up is to preset the password on the bes manager (under the users account) then go to the device and input the email address and password that I set.
Then leave to sync.
Tis very easy.
set the contact details and lock it..
the other way is to plug the device in to a pc and assign it to the user but that depends on if you have access to a pc with the bes mgr software on it..

Re: Blackberry Config
Start Blackberry Manager program
Select the server in top left corner of Explorer view.
Right click on the user choose Set activation password.
Set the password and password expiry time.
On the device goto Options then Advanced and then Enterprise Activation. Enter the username and password you set.
You can also activate using the blackberry user tools (on the cd that came with the device) you need to have an outlook profile set up for their mail.

Re: Blackberry Config
Cool - thanks all....it's a 8707v in front of me - it's trying to activate but not connecting...
Any ideas?
PS - network coverage is on one bar (if I'm lucky) - wonder if it's GRPS failing thats causing it...

Re: Blackberry Config
You should only need to switch the sim card and cradle the new device at the user's desktop IF they are allowed to use the Desktop manager, you should then be asked if you want to swich PIN.
Before doing this it's advisable to use the backup/restore facility in desktop manager on the old device.
If the users are not allowed to use the desktop manager or the BES policy forbids desktop switch device then you'll have to do a secure wipe or nuke on the existing device and provision the new one.

Yep! Simple as described...started syncing then stopped....but I think that was down to 1 bar / 0 bars of network coverage....
Hopefully once it gets a decent signal it'll sync again.
