Re: Update Laptop/PC Drives

You can't really update the drives as such, but you can update the software that is installed on the computer.

The mechanism for doing that will depend on the piece of software concerned.

If you have a specific piece of software that you want help with please post back with the name and version and I'm sure someone can help you out

Re: Update Laptop/PC Drives

Updating the firmware on a drive can be done, but you'd have to go to the manufacturers website (that is the drives manfuacturers and not the laptop/PC's manufacturer..

Please explain more though exactly what you mean by UPDATE/SEARCH and SCAN as the original post is lacking detail to exactly what you wish to do.

I wanted to upgrade my drives because I feel that my internet connection is a lil slow, so if I upgraded the drives, it may improve the speed.

I don't want to put you off but I don't think upgrading drivers will improve the internet speed. I woud look at other more connection-based areas (assuming it's just the connection that is slow and not the PC in general) such as:

Are you using a router - if so, is performance improved using the computer direct to the modem?

Are you using wireless - does moving nearer or changing channel to the router improve things?

When I put my modem directly into my pc (with router) my inter speed is faster, with the router the internet connection is slow. Im using a netgear router with a VM modem, any suggestions?

Re: Update Laptop/PC Drives

What speed service have you got and what model of netgear router do you have?

If, for example, you have a 100Mbps card in your PC and are on a 20Mbps service then putting a 10Mbps router in between will bring the slowest link down to half of what it is without the router.

Re: Update Laptop/PC Drives

I have a Netgear WNR834B Wireless cable Router and have the 20mb VM service. My wireless card in my laptop is: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection. Does that not support my 20 mb internet connection?

Re: Update Laptop/PC Drives

The router does indeed support 20Mbps. As you are connecting wirelessly, have you tried connecting to your router with a cable to see if the wireless connection is causing the speed?

Re: Update Laptop/PC Drives

then the fault is with the router not being able to support the full connection.

perhaps worth resetting the unit and set it back up again, that does quite often (believe it or not) cure issues.

how old is the router?
