Sloooooow Firefox

Hi

About a week ago Firefox is running sloooooow. It takes ages to load pages and is a pain. Downloading with P2P is fine, so is sending email so I don;t think it's me connection. Any suggestions? IE is running slow too.

FYI I am in Newmarket and have just had the 4mb to 10mb upgrade, any chance of this causing an issue?

Test 1: 1024K took 3516 ms = 291.2 KB/sec, approx 2399 Kbps, 2.34 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 3484 ms = 293.9 KB/sec, approx 2422 Kbps, 2.37 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 3500 ms = 292.6 KB/sec, approx 2411 Kbps, 2.35 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 7000 ms = 292.6 KB/sec, approx 2411 Kbps, 2.35 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 2411 Kbps, 2.35 Mbps

To be fair I'ts never been that low before, even when on 4mb.

Do you (by chance) have the extension FasterFox installed? If yes, check that it's not set to turbo charged. That function used to work very well with the VM servers but (alas) not now, sigh...................! For best results, set it to - courteous.

If you've not got this extension installed the do so. In addition (just in case) perform a virus and a Trojan scan.

I do and indeed it was set to selfish server hogger, switched to courteous and it seems faster. I'll see how it goes.

I found Firefox to be the fastest browser going. If you use this, try the following, it really does speed it up even faster:

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll
down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time.
When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really
speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Just Double Click it

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Just Double Click it

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This
means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.
Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0".
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages 2-30 times faster now.

It's just that in the first post, the OP said that this was happening with Internet Explorer as well. If it is happening on both, it sounds like it may not be the browser...

Is it happening on ANY website? Or just particular websites? It could be the site you're trying to view?

Does your anti virus software have the link scanner ?

this has been proven to slow down all browsers and gives all your info iP,browser and isp.to every result in your search.

check for a link scanner and switch it off
