Re: Video Input

Is your Video port onboard the motherboard or is it on a separate expansion card?

It sounds like a faulty video card (or maybe its not seated correctly on the motherboard (if its on an expansion card).

If its onboard the motherboard then it may be a faulty motherboard.

Your PC may be set to a resolution that the monitor cannot display.

Re: Video Input

try settign the resolution to 1024x768 and see if it works then if it does just adjust then till it wont work anymore

---------- Post added at 12:53 ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 ----------

bit of a long shot also but try re-installing the graphics drivers i've seen them mess up and stop you from getting a display on some monitors stupid i know but might just be worth a shot

Re: Video Input

Alternatively could be a faulty VGA cable. Use VGA cable from known working monitor on the monitor that doesn't work.

If thats not working then monitor may be dead.

Re: Video Input

I took it it to a comp shop and he tried my pc tower on a lcd monitor and it messed up his monitor. He said that the video card is sending more/powerful signal, so he said i need to get another graphics card.

My pc tower works fine with those standard monitors...

Really weird...

Sound like complete rubbish to me, he didn't by any chance try and get you to buy a new card from him did he?

No, I didn't buy anything from him. Just told him to have a look, to see if he could find what the problem was.

My graphics card is a 'half size' graphics card,as I have a slim pc tower. Wheres the best place to buy another? Any links?

Thanks

Re: Video Input

yes but is it pci-e then or agp as this will help us to find something for you other than just guessing.
here's some of each of each:

ati agp:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=56&subcat=403

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=56&subcat=403

ati pci-e

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=56&subcat=416

nvidia agp

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=56&subcat=411

nvidia pci-e

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...56&subcat=1008

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=56&subcat=356

all will do for gaming or just general use if it's not for gaming then go for the ati probably a, little better for the price but other than that got to be nvidia.

i'm sure others will be recommended but these are what i would look at if i was just a general user of a pc

Damien, are these all HALF SIZE graphics card, as my pc tower is SLIM and uses a very slim/small graphics coz of that. I wanted BOTH the DIGITAL and ANALOGUE ports on the graphics card.

Re: Video Input

OK, what monitors are you using? CRT, LCD, what resolutions, refresh rates?

It sounds like, as someone already said, that you're trying to display a res that the problem monitor cant handle.

As someone else has already said (you are listening to advice being given and acting on it, aren't you?) connect to the monitor you know works, set the res & refresh rate low, reconnect the dodgy monitor & if it works you know that was your problem.
