uTorrent on Ubuntu
I used the Softpedia way of installing it on Ubuntu, but I keep getting "Permission denied". I've checked the permissions in different ways but I can't get it to work. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Craig

Re: uTorrent on Ubuntu
You mean you tried installing it via Softpedia instead of the repos & it won't because it gives you permission denied?
I'd suggest installing it from the Ubuntu repos which should handle the permissions.
If it's not in the repos, try installing it from Softpedia while logged in as root...

Re: uTorrent on Ubuntu
I just use it via WINE. I didn't know there was a linux version?
You could try typing "sudo" before the command and see if that gets around your permission problem

Sorry, didn't realise it was Win only. I use Deluge under Linux.
Guide to installing it under Wine in Ubuntu here (warning - long thread!)

Got it working, thanks! It doesn't look too good on Ubuntu.

Why not use one of the native torrent progs?
Deluge
KTorrent (I think it's usable under Gnome with the right dependencies)
Transmission

Re: uTorrent on Ubuntu
I`ve never actually used Wine for anything but i`ll certainly offer another vote for Deluge.Been using it ever since i stopped using ktorrent last year, which does indeed work fine under Gnome too.
Transmission is obviously the default torrent app in Ubuntu now-a-days but i`ll stick with Deluge for that kinda stuff.

Ah, thank you! I picked uTorrent because it's easy to use and so simple. I'll try them out once I go on Ubuntu.

Re: uTorrent on Ubuntu
If you use private trackers/sites, make sure you check the allowed clients before switching to a new one.

Re: uTorrent on Ubuntu
I use ktorrent, what are the pros and cons of the others? I use it instead of Transmission, as I'm more familiar with ktorrent, and ktorrent seems to work fine for me.
Cheers
Al

Re: uTorrent on Ubuntu
It`s been a while since i last actually used Ktorrent but i always found it & Deluge to be quite similar. Both did a good enough job but Deluge just required that few less (KDE)Dependencies in Gnome,or Xfce even.

Deluge is pretty much a utorrent clone in many ways so you'd like that one.
Very light footprint on the system as well.
