Streaming video from Virtual machine to xbox360
Ok, so what I've got is a server running win2k Server, on that server I have virtualbox running an xp vm (vmware just doesn't like my server for some reason).
All well and good, the vm works ok, as expected.
So what I'm trying to do is stream divx to the xbox360 from the vm instance, but it doesn't work...
I've got WMP 11 running on the vm, set up for sharing, but it can't see the xbox, and the xbox can't see it.
Scouting around, I thought it was a port problem, as the vm is using NAT from the host machine, so I added in the following port forwarding details
Code:
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver1/Protocol" value="TCP" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver1/GuestPort" value="2869" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver1/HostPort" value="2869" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver2/Protocol" value="UDP" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver2/GuestPort" value="1900" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver2/HostPort" value="1900" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver3/Protocol" value="TCP" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver3/GuestPort" value="10243" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver3/HostPort" value="10243" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver4/Protocol" value="UDP" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver4/GuestPort" value="10280" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver4/HostPort" value="10280" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver5/Protocol" value="UDP" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver5/GuestPort" value="10281" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver5/HostPort" value="10281" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver6/Protocol" value="UDP" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver6/GuestPort" value="10282" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver6/HostPort" value="10282" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver7/Protocol" value="UDP" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver7/GuestPort" value="10284" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver7/HostPort" value="10284" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver8/Protocol" value="UDP" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver8/GuestPort" value="10283" />
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/mediaserver8/HostPort" value="10283" />
</ExtraData>
but still no joy...any ideas?

Re: Streaming video from Virtual machine to xbox360
have you firstly checked that it can stream divx, i dont think it can as i have a 360 but dont use the media functions as i use me pc instead.
secondly does the vm version of xp have the media centre if it doesnt that will be your problem there, as the 360 is a media centre extender and requires media centre, on the pc and then also a add-on installed on the pc to allow them to connect to each other.
i am assuming you have them connected through a router?
i got mine to work with vista when going through a router but only after downloading the add-on, and then going through the set up process. hope this helps

you don't need the media center, you can just do it using windows media player 11.
I've had this set up working on a real xp machine..

Re: Streaming video from Virtual machine to xbox360
I used Windows Connect & opened ports on the PC's firewall as per instructions on the 360's pages. After I did that, the 360 found all the folders I had marked in Windows Connect as share folders.
Didn't bother with WMP11 - too much hassle.
I just browse from the 360 to the hard drives and choose a video, click play and it works.

Is windows firewall on on the Virtual Windows?
I've only played with VMware a little bit, but I made a virtual machine at work, and couldn't work out why I other machines couldn't access it despite it running IIS. Somehow it had put Windows Firewall on on the virtual network card!

go back to basics, first can you ping from the VM to all the another machines in the LAN.
can you ping from the other machines to the VM.
if yes, take VLC media play/server and use it's wizard to multicast a video-file stream to say 224.0.0.1:7070 and see if all the other machines can see and play that single multicast stream.
dont forget to set the players to the multicast stream "224.0.0.1:7070 " and not the remote file name.

Ping doesn't work across NAT (for this vm system) - but I can telnet to the specific ports on the vm (NAT'd across the real machine).
What I will probably do is just install tomcat on the vm, and check that I can reach it across 8080 on the port forwarding (mostly 'cos that will be quicker than messing around with VLC)

LOL, its not quicker to install tomcat than run the VLC, click wizard load up the divx and enter a multicast address to stream to , its UDP so far less messing around, but you still have that lack of bridging to sort first by the look of it.
i cant remember the exact command line for a quick multicast but thats even faster OC.
if your just looking to do a quick run and use web server on any LAN machine, just grab the rebol gui serveit and a rebol view for your OS

TAP on Win2k gives you a tunnel to get through the NAT,AFAIK.
usually if it's not pingable its not usable..... is the rule.
