Thumbs up He Can't Hear Me ?

HI THERE FOLKS,
I wonder if anyone out there can help solve a problem which which has occurred with pc to pc chat?. I chat both on skype and bt messenger regularly with a pal and until about a fortnight ago all was trouble free, suddenly audio from his end cannot be heard, he's tried usual configeration tests with skype, cannot hear his voice playback as he should. He's tried all manner of things ie. changed mikes etc, it' wierd because line is open he hears me okay and able to text,I must say awful interference and I have to turn dwn my speakers because bad echos. This is the same when he trys contact with other regular contacts, so is it possible pc fault?. the pc is only about 12 mths old and before he takes it upstairs and throws it out of the window I said I'd give it atry with you guys.
CHEERS DON MAC.
