A Laptop...
I may be in the market for a laptop. I have some money coming my way and I would be looking around the £1000 mark.
I'm no expert with computers, but my knowledge of desktops is a hell of a lot better than laptops lol!
I know there are a few people here who have helped others in the past with their purchases so I thought I come an ask lol!
I have looked at Dell (get a 10% with them as a perk for working at M&S) but I thought I would see if I can get more value for my money.
Thanks in advance

Re: A Laptop...
A grand is going to buy quite a serious laptop. Think though what you really want to use it for. Laptops aren't that easy to upgrade, so you either buy cheaply and expect to replace swiftly, or you buy well hoping for longevity.
Are you buying for portability, or as a desktop replacement? Battery life, weight and size affect mobility, but the lighter and smaller tends to equate to increased cost. Are you wanting to play games (desktops remain far more versatile with far superior graphics capabilities). Think of connectivity, not just network, but bluetooth and various media cards for cameras.

Re: A Laptop...
I hate the term Desktop Replacement because they do not . I would only spend a grand on a machine that is going to be my main machine have to work hard and take the strain. The xps Dell laptops will suit your aim most likely

Re: A Laptop...
See this is the thing. I kind of want something fairly future proof and assumed I am going to have to pay through the teeth for it. If I could spend less than this and get something fairly decent that is going to last me a good few years then that would be even better.
Ideally it needs to be fairly portable. I'm not intending to lug it about all over the place regularly and this has to be weighed up against my massive hands which have issues with other people's lappys lol. I would like as decent a battery life as possible. Decent graphics would be nice, but not essential as I'm not a massive game player. Bluetooth would be useful and wireless is now pretty much standard, but I was thinking about the 'n' standard and whether or not it would be getting something that would support it (in theroy, as I know the standard hasn't been fully finalised).
Just thought running it by you guys was a good idea, as I have bought stuff for my desktop in the past and then seen how I could often get more for my money after it is spent lol!

In that case I feel you only need to spend 6 or 7 hundred quid as the grand machines are gamer models. You can get 8600 dedicated graphics at least 2 gig of ram a nice big hdd and a good c2d in this price range

Re: A Laptop...
My friend has had a couple of them. Must say the battery life of one of them was amazing around five hours. But they have always failed after just over a year!
