Re: A Laptop...
I'll see how I get along without a mouse for the time-being but that is a good idea!
Meant to say thanks for everyone's help - I'll no doubt be back for Mac related help in the not too distant future lol!

Re: A Laptop...
Told you all I'd be back soon...
My intention is to use bootcamp and install Vista on another partition, so I have a few questions...
How big would you make the Windows partition?
I am assuming that I can store all the files in the Mac partition (music, pictures, documents, videos etc.) and I be able to access them when I'm using Vista?
And is there a Ctrl C, V & X?

The minimum for Vista Business 64bit appears to be 30 gig..

Sadly, no. Windows cannot read Mac formatted disks without extra software. The only reliable software I have found is macdrive ( http://www.macdrive.com/ ) but this isn't free. It's not expensive though.

There is... You use it the same way, but instead of pressing control, you press the apple key
That is a full size imac keyboard, but the layout is similar enough. Apple is the key immediately to the left of the space bar.

I have XP on my macbook under bootcamp, and bootcamp has made a 'no name' directory in OS X. The 'no name' directory is the root for XP, so all the XP folders are accesible from OS X. So, any files stored in the XP partition are accessible from OS X, but not the other way round. I presume it's the same for Vista.

Re: A Laptop...
Actually, a good thread for tips (and where the piccy above comes from) is at http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=213115
Just be prepared for a surprising effect if you press Control, Option (or Alt), Apple and 8 all together. To switch it off, press them again.

Re: A Laptop...
That's a little disappointing. The best idea then would be to plug an external drive into the mac for all my windows documents.
I assume the apple key is the same as the cmd key?
Oh and something else...is there a way to fully maximise a window in the same way you can in windows? The only way I can see to do it is to drag the bottom right corner of each window.

It is.. OSX has no trouble reading and writing Fat 32 drives. It can read (but not write) NTFS drives.
Windows won't read or write Mac drives..

Re: A Laptop...
On the Macbook/Pro keyboard tis the CMD key. Is the Apple key only on the external keyboards?

In which case it's best to make the windows partition large and the mac one smaller so you can keep all the files accessible?
Thanks again for all these hints...very useful. And Stuart that effect is cool lol!
EDIT: Cheers daniel! I was typing this response when you posted

Or the macdrive software..
To control windows on OSX, look at the top LEFT of the window. You'll find three icons to the left of the title bar. Clicking the red icon (which displays a cross when the mouse is over it) closes the window. Yellow (which displays a -) minimises it and Green (which displays a +) maximises it.

Sorry didn't explain myself very well. If I double click on the window in Vista it will make the window fill the whole screen. Is there an equivalent?

The nearest I know of is the icon I mentioned above. However, double clicking a title bar in OSX will minimize the window to the Dock.

Re: A Laptop...
Cheers Stu!
Thing it's going to be just a case of press some buttons and see what happens.
Now if I only I could get it to locate the printer attached to my vista PC so I can print I will be a happy man. I think vista could be at fault because I find the sharing process on it rather annoying.
So the lack of mac NTFS support will no doubt mean no Mac > PC file sharing?

You'll have to switch on the lpd protocol in Vista: Programs & Features - Turn Windows Features On/off then enable lpd
on your mac printer setup you address the printer by it's device url: lpd://computername/printersharename
