Help needed with XP "My Pictures" Issue please!

Hi,

sorry if this has been posted before-tried search and nothing came up.

Im having an odd issue with my Partners "My Pictures" folder.

About once a month some files disapear from the said folder and appear in another folder named "My Pictures".

This new folder is usually found burried within a totally unrelated folder within the main "My Documents" folder. This time I found it in a subfolder within a subfolder of folder used to horde downloaded fonts and it contained some 270 files. (this is a reltively small number)

I am running Xp SP2 with all relevant updates...cant find any malware etc and no other quirks. My user account is not affected.

The only potential link I could think of is that it may be related to the sheer size of the "My Pictures" folder in question or that the default "My Documents" folder is located on a different partition from the OS.

Any ideas would be great! Particularly if there is a solution to stop it happening.

Cheers

Jock

Jock,

Sorry, never heard of that happening with some user input, deliberate or accidental.

One suggestion - if 720 photos is a small percentage, I would recommend splitting them up into smaller sub folders, eg by month/year. It may not be the real problem but it may help.

Jock,

I have seen this before with folders alot bigger - like 5GB + however, from past experience, this is *sometimes* caused by something going wrong in the other users accounts.

What I would do is:

Creat another account for your partner, move everything accross to that new account and delete the old account and monitor it. I would also suggest backing up photos to a USB Pen aswell if possible!

I havent seen this problem with any comp I've used, however, I'm notorious for catagorising my pictures within my 'pictures' folder... I also back up at least once a month so I don't lose anything (except the disk... it could be *anywhere* around here!!)
But the trick is to back up as much as you can when you can
