You think Windows is bad..

At least the PC running it doesn't generate an electromagnetic pulse on startup, unlike Coleco's old computer (and Colecovision expansion), Adam..

In an stunningly bone-headed design move, the daisy-wheel printer contained the only power cord for the system. The same cord used for communication between it and the system also supplied power. This often meant that if something went wrong with the printer, the entire system would die....

i hope those bbc 'B' and acorn electrons never had the same problems

Most obscure retro computer I have is an MGT Sam Coupé, still with its original box and manuals. Now that was a fun little machine.

Never played elite on the BBC but I did get the slightly larger version on the PC. Got to Archangel status by destroying a space station and then a quick hack when it started to get dull to make a tardis like ship, very small so light on fuel with a huge cargo bay to carry lots of stuff. Left it all at an old employer, shame really. I might still have the save file though.

Wow - I've never actaully known anyone that had one of those.

I was tempted when it was clear the spectrum was dead, but it was just too expensive - and there weren't many games

I searched everywhere for one of those years ago, but could not find one anywhere.

Re: You think Windows is bad..

I got mine from The Model Shop in Guildford (the day of the 1991 storm, we lost power for 3 days so all I could do was to read the manual from cover to cover), but they also sold them at A&C Computers in Farnborough. Alan Miles and Bruce Gordon actually put on a PR event at A&C Computers, one of the MGT staff gave me a diskette packed with Speccy games.

Re: You think Windows is bad..

Mmmmm retro. I've got a ZX81 with a handmade keyboard, boxed Spectrum and 2 QL's. And a Mattel Aquarius. And a C64 (v2). Let's not get started on the consoles...

My first computer was the very old UK101. It came in kit form and no case! Those chips where so fragile if you breathed on them they croaked hahaha
Still remember a few of us with them at the first computer clubs in the NE, in old church halls in 1980.
Upstart monebags owned a PET with a massive 8k memory, ahhhh those are the days. Fond memories
