Graphics card cooling.
My graphics card fan has been moaning like a bugger. I've temporarily disabled the fans power, and the noise (or lack of) is bliss, in comparison. My question is, will I be safe to leave the fan off ? I've monitored the temps for the last couple of hours, and to be honest, the temps are the same as when the fan was running. The only noticeable thing, is my mobo temp has risen, only by about 3c though, so not too bad. I intend to replace the card in a couple of weeks, but will I have any adverse affects ? Am not too bothered about the card going kaput, but it would be disastrous if my mobo was to get damaged in some way.

It's a cheap Abit X300, I bought it 2 years ago, when I built this pc. I just needed something cheap, as I'm not a gamer, so something very simple would suffice. According to the accompanying software, the core temp is 42C. My cpu is 31C and mobo is 30C (according to asus probe). My temp on the card itself hasn't budged, and is the same when the cards fan was spinning (very loudly), which just shows what a crap job it was doing.

Re: Graphics card cooling.
Those temps are quite low, as long as the heatsink on its a decent size you will be ok as most of the cards in that class have a passive option anyway and if your not using the 3d engine then it will hardly be doing anything

Thanks for the reassurance
The heatsink is a fair size, I wasn't aware that they had a passive option. Anyway, my temps have been stable, so am reasonably at peace now lol.

Providing the temps of anything around it are fine probably the worst you're likely to do if it does overheat is get some artifacting on screen if your unlucky it might cook the card but i doubt it would do anything worse than that.
