weird computer error, which bit to return!

evening well i have a PC that has 2gb in 2x1gb sticks. I noticed this week i was getting weird memory errors with various bits of software so decided to run memtest.

anyway, loads of errors brought up and such, so thinking the ram is faulty. decided to see if its just one, so ran memtest on single sticks and it comes up with no problems at all

so is it likely to be the mainboard then with problems as the sticks are ok on their own.

oh the confusion all worked fine until a week or so ago! both sticks exactly the same etc. the progs didnt give memory errors prior.

I've had boards do the same before now - one stick and everything's peachy, add another and its crashtastic.

You could try either slightly increasing the ram voltage a notch, or drop the access times down a smidgen, or failing that; reduce the FSB a few MHz until its stable [again].

..or just give up.

Re: weird computer error, which bit to return!

Are they matched / same type and chip type, or are they odds & sods.

You CAN get unmatched pairs to work, sometimes - Intels are better than AMDs at that.

... looked back, they are matched.

Trying singly, did you use them in the slots they were running in, or use the same slot each time?

If it's 4 slot, try the other slot pair.
