all in one printer which one ?

hello all, im after purchasing a all in one printer, i dont need it to be something special for colour printing, im not really interested in printing on photo paper, all i need it to do is scan, copy, print, using a pc ofcourse!

the ones i have seen have pretty extortinate prices for ink cartridges, i need something economical in both ink price and usage wise

i set this impossible task now!

Re: all in one printer which one ?

I like the Epson Stylus Photo RX640 from the second link, good price and outstanding features all for a little over a ton. Whatever you go for make sure it uses individual colour cartridges much more economical to run.

You don't say what you budget is?

If there is one get a laser one (yes toner carts will cost but cheaper in the long run)

between £50-£60, however i have found the EPSON Stylus DX6050 to be worthy of purchase, ink cartridge price find pending, considering also its a bargain at £59.98 ( pcworld *gasp), card reader etc too

Re: all in one printer which one ?

Here's my take on this...

For CD printing, I'd suggest Canon specifically i950 (this is what i use) For pictures, a friend of mine swears that his Epson all-in-one printer is the only choice for printing, scanning and copying any document.

But for B/W, I use HP970CXi--actually any HP printer would do well for B/W printing. That's why I HP printer cartridges for my paperworks. I get my compatible HP ink cartridges, epson printer cartridges, tektronix print cartridges, pitney bowes ink cartridges and minolta toner cartridges online. So with all the printers in our house, obtaining such assortment of cartridges under one roof is heaven sent.

My friend says Epson, I say HP

Brothers are cheap to buy, and if you refill the inks yourself, cheap to run.

I Have Lexmark X2350 only requires one ink cartridge (lexmark no. 1 cartridge) which only costs £14.99 a cartridge or £10 if you buy tesco remanufactured

Re: all in one printer which one ?

A friend had an all in one, and the printer half of it failed, leaving them either needing to get a printer and have a much larger than needed scanner, or to replace the entire unit.

I've never been a fan of all-in-ones, unless choosing one with STANDALONE copy capability.

I'm guessing the the printer section is more likely to fail due to head problems.

The ink system I liked best (though I ended up buying a half-price Epson printer in PCW sale some years back), was the Canaon system with both ink tank and head replacement - cheap to keep in clone or refill inks, and no great aggro if (when) the head dies, as the head was a disposable component with a schedule of about 10 ink tanks.

Mind you, I have a disposable printer - since the price was only a little more than a genuine Ink set, I bought a second one at special offer, NEVER loaded any ink, and have it ready to take over if my current one packs up.

Re: all in one printer which one ?

I've just bought a HP Photosmart C6280 - Networkable Printer, Copier & Scanner -
All In One Printer from PCWorld (£99.99) but now £199.99.

Excellent printer, with ethernet and you can print and scan over a LAN - excellent!
