HardDrive Question

Hi all.

I am looking for a new hard drive and am wondering in the £150 category whats the biggest size to best manufacture option.

I would love over 500GB as this has to store all my and my partners data aswell as backups, SATA2 is preferred and I am happy with online purchasing.

Thanks.

500GB is a fair size storage capacity, but forgive me for appearing negative the phrase "eggs and baskets" springs to mind. Think on what would happen if the drive failed - as once happened to me . Use it as a separate backup by all means, but keep your operating system on another drive just in case.

Re: HardDrive Question

Kinda depends what your criteria are Andrew. If you like silence then Samsung and Seagate drives run pretty cool and quiet. And with a budget of £150 I'd get two 500Gb drives instead of one 750Gb - you know, for that off-line backup of the internet that you downloaded last week

Re: HardDrive Question

I have an Antec 900 gaming case so I'm used to a bit of fan noise, 2x500GB sounds nice since I am using a 250GB for my OS and Programs right now. I do plan on burning the backups to dvdr however it would be nice to have somewhere to store it until I have enough media to backup.

Re: HardDrive Question

I would also go with the idea of two drives.
One could be a 500GB internal and the other a small external drive that would be portable and allow you to take your backups everywhere.

Re: HardDrive Question

Sounds good space in my pc is at a premium with it not really being laid out nicely for multiple HD's it may have the bays but the cramp inside layout don't leave much room for cables.

I hope to get then a 500GB Internal and perhaps a 500GB external at a future date then
