They call it progress, I just call it fat **** Microsoft programing. The more memory the Microsoft engineers have the more they make there software bloated and slow. I have said it once and i will say it again, Windows is not bad for Alpha software but i would not run anything critical on it .

Well tbh Vista is a great effort and I can see the amount of GOOD programming effort that has gone into it.

But alas needs to be tuned to user preferences - hence my query.

EDIT : Was reading weeks back about the explorer hack - anyone have any tips or point me to the URL ?

Cheers

Well it is designed for at 2gig of RAM and really dual core at the minimum - You can't really compare Vista with XP they are very different breeds.

I feel its quicker. I have XP on the same box, Dual Core and 2GB and it feels like IE is certainly quicker under Vista, however the frame rates i get in 3dmark06 are lower.

Sorry for tagging on a bit but do you know of how to fix services like VNC so that I can get through the logon screen after the machine is locked.

Typically since VNC runs in user mode - when you lock Vista you are dropped into system mode and hence the reason why you cant vnc unless you physically unlock the machine.

Yes it looks like I want VNC to run at the system level if possible ? Any cookies you can throw me would be welcome.

Re: Vista file transfers damn slow

One thing you could try is turning off "Remote Differential Compression", some people say disableing it helps.. (can at least give it a try)

Control Panel > Programs & Features > (On the Left)Turn Windows Features on or Off. Just untick Remote Differential Compression.
