msn live probs

Ok, up until recently on my rather elderly comp, I was quite happy using msn messenger 7.5 - ok, there were times when connected, it failed to send something... then came the reminder 'update to windows live'

So I did...

For two weeks it worked flawlessly - even on an elderly pc like my own. I even have it on the laptop and it's a breeze!!

So, we went away for a weekend and I come back and suddenly, windows live crashes my pc sending it into reboot more times than I dare care mention...

Trillian got installed as an alternative...

I checked the startup tab by running msconfig in the run dialog - saw nothing really that could mess anything up... (after disconnecting the ethernet cable first - doesn't pay to take chances!) rebooted again, plugged the ethernet cable in, ran trillian - SWEET!!

I hit ctrl+alt+del to see what kind of performance I was getting too - man, I don't wanna go there - services were critical with WL running... yet, back to a more normal 4% with trillian running.... huh?!

WTF is it with Windows Live?? Anyone else having an issue with it?
Any other alternative apps out there that would do a similar job to MSN/Live? Or should I try and install Live again? (overwrite the current installation)

Re: msn live probs

Did you try uninstalling it, delete the installation directories, reboot, re-download and re-install?

Re: msn live probs

thats next...!

also heavy coffee drinking, swearing, grabbing lunch and attending a meeting (for which there is no venue.. lol)

Only got back from weekend away yesterday so I was just too plain tired to argue/fight with it until today

once I've managed to get five minutes to sit down (believe me, this message comes courtesy of 'charging around like a nut' enterprises )

Re: msn live probs

Uninstalled everything msn related and redownloaded and installed it - and I've still got the same problems....

I'll just uninstall the B***** thing totally and stick to Trillian

Re: msn live probs

I'm currently running:
XP pro on a
700mhz Celeron
384mb RAM
2x 20Gb HDD
Internal GFX (4mb)
Sounblaster Audigy SE

It's 7 years old this year.

I suppose its age is a big factor

Nope, there's nothing fancy or technologically erotic about this comp lol!

Re: msn live probs

fair point... even the cr*ptop - a mere 600mhz running XP pro with no soundchip and also with a Celery chip can run it....

All I did was go away for the weekend....!

I did contemplate doing a System Restore - but there's no absolute garuntee thats gonna make things ok....

For now and until after the weekend, I'll just plod along with Trillian
