Even though Windows Defender is out of beta, it's still as crap as it'll ever be

Well, it works for some and doesn't work for others. Windows Defender has never found a piece of spyware on my machine while SpyBot & AdAware have found a lot.

Put it this way. I have had Windows Defender catch a couple of nasties that the various virus scanners miss.

Re: Sneeky MS
I've just tried Spybot again after 5 years and it's given me a false positive on something, which was one of the reasons i stopped using it.

Re: Sneeky MS
Windows Defender is out of beta testing now, but you can't expect Microsoft to update every part of their website so soon.

Well, it does say "recommend". You don't have to do anything.

Re: Sneeky MS
Not WMP, but occasionally Windows Explorer crashes on me (it mainly seems to be connected with moving large numbers of photos around) and when I faithfully click the Send to MS box, it always gives the same useless advice. I've always assumed it to mean that they either haven't the faintest idea or, more likely, that they have no intention of wasting time and resources on my problem, but feel that they have to try to persuade me that they care.
Of course, I may be being overly cynical.

Good thing I scrolled down as I was about to point out the same thing. It's only a recommendation as MS are obviously thinking that they have to cover all bases including systems that might have been infected in some way.

Re: Sneeky MS
I just thought it was a sneeky way to get their crap on even more systems. Nan or even mum would follow the advice - they seem to follow every other instruction in a popup
