Extending PCs via CAT5

My minimalist PC room is just round the corner - away with the clutter ! Hopefully if I can get this right I will have a desk with 2 monitors, a mouse and keyboard connected to a KVM and CAT5 extender with no noisy PCs in sight (PC's will be in the utility room).

Trouble is that I dont want any PCs in there. I have a VGA/mouse/keyboard/audio extender which works fine with 1 PC but I want to purchase another one that does the same except extends DVI instead of VGA.

HELL Have you seen the prices for DVI extension ?

What do I do ? Anyone know how I can extend DVI cheaply or DIY even ? There are also modules to extend Firewire and USB2 but adding all these modules up and you're looking at spending a small fortune

Cheaper to buy a pair of ear defenders and some dark glasses

LOL No ??????????????????????/

Hmmmmmmm Thinking about it a bit here :

What happens when you do that ? If I do DVI2VGA -> transmit -> VGA2DVI will I lose any quality ? Will my monitor pick it up as a DVI source ?

Worth trying out I think (Would save a hella lota money)

No Quality should be lost. You should test it first if possible though.

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the ones that work...

I will try it

(edit was trying to get some gear shipped over from the states : same thing in the states costs $400 in the UK £400 excluding VAT (heck !))
