Application Monitoring

I have been using Spybot's SD resident for a while. Its very effective. Am wondering if there is a better option out there. I also have Startup Ctrl Panel but i need a utility that works in real time.
Anyone has a better alternative? especialy if its light on resources.
Ghost Security Suite might do the same job but its got 15 days trial only.

Re: Application Monitoring

Spyware Blaster is ok as an extra layer of security, & doesn't have to be running to work

Re: Application Monitoring

If you are looking for HIPS style protection, I have found the free version of System Safety Monitor bulletproof, although you have to set the rules up yourself - so if you know what permissions should be set for what files, you will be fine - but an incorrect setup could render the protection useless.

Another here, free version too - but never tried it:

thread here at Wilders about it:

Re: Application Monitoring

I will be trying all of the above apps in the coming days. I didn't explain myself well! wat i meant really was the SD Residents capability of informing me of apps being added to startup-it might be Tea Timer that actualy does that. am not sure.
Am looking for apps similar to Ghost Regdefend and Ghost Appdefend-though i havn't tried Appdefend yet.
There's ProcessGuard but that seemed to decide when to allow my programs to run n all. It would not let me choose!

Re: Application Monitoring

I believe Process Guard comes with its own rules, SSM has none (apart for those for itself). Official Ghost Security Forums are here:

Re: Application Monitoring

Anyone know if there is a more detailed application monitor for win32...

I've always wanted to know exactly what an app/dll was doing in terms of system calls etc.

Is there something like the unix truss or linux strace for windows ?

Re: Application Monitoring

I know filemon and regmon will give you loads of detailed info, available from sysinternals (now M$):
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...k/Diskmon.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...k/Filemon.mspx

You get alot of output, but it monitors (as far as I know) everything

Re: Application Monitoring

you could try this: http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilitie...sExplorer.html

It seems pretty easy to navigate through.

does anyone use Tea Timer?
