shipping harddrive to germany

One of my raptors has gone faulty (it makes a rather loud noise, not to disssimular to a cabletie knocking on a fan blade ) i know its the drive becuase if i unplug it the noise stops and also the system hang when trying to access it. That and it spun down and up a few times

So im guessing either the heads have crashed and are scraping across the platters or one of the bearings is shot.

Ive checked the serial NO against WD's site and got an RMA number and now i find i have to ship it to germany at my expence (isnt that nice of WD )

anyway whats the best way to ship a harddrive to germany? Just take it down the post office or use a corrier?

any idea of the likely cost? im guessing at around £10 - 20? and will i likely be stung for any kind of export duty im not likeing this part of the RMA confirmation.

Quote:
WDC pays any duties/taxes incurred at Customs for the replacement product. Customer pays any duties/taxes incurred at Customs when shipping direct to WDC. Please contact your Customs and Excise Authorities regarding any excess Import/Export charges that your country may apply. WD will not pay for these extra charges

If it was just a standard cheapo hdd i probably would be to lazy to bother but as its a raptor and therefore rather pricy to replace im gonna ship it.

Personally i think its a bit of a joke i have to PAY to ship a defective product internationally to get it fixed, why dont these companies ever have an repair center here in the UK or at least a uk returns department one could ship faulty drives to.

Stick it in a Jiffy Bag and put it in the post, that's what I did for Maxtor

WD state it HAS to be a strong box or they wont accept it.

and the raptor itself weighs 730g according to the spec.
