Red face hello

I am having a nightmare with saving on to a cd-rw. I have only used floppys and cdr in the past. Is it true that you cant use them like floppys and just keep adding, like you would a floppy or in your 'save as' etc? I am managing to save one part of my assignment but will not allow me to add anything else even if i label it differently ie, assignment 2.doc, nor will it let me click and drag more than one item even though they are v small ie, 22kb. The error messages are
'cannot copy 'doc' - not enough free space- delete one or more files to free space and try again'
it wont let me delete anything
the other message it likes is
'files on this cd rom are read-only. you cannot copy or move files over to this cd rom drive.'
I have unchecked the green read-only section but it doesnt make any difference....
any ideas wud be greatly appreciated, i only want to back up my work, i wish i had a floppy disc drive now

Re: hello

you 'should' be able to use it just like a big floppy, assuming your writer is compatible, as Paul M said.

But you have to format the CDRW disk, first - sorry if you have done this, already.

to the forum, anyway

Re: hello

You can write to your CD-RW disc in two ways. The normal way is to write the files to disc in what's called a session. This is exactly the same as writing to a standard CD-R. You can replace files as long as you do not finalize the CD, but files aren't really replaced. A new copy is written to disc, and this becomes the version in use. Eventually the disc will fill up. The benefit of a CD-RW is that you can erase it and start again.

The second way is using packet-writing. For this you will need something like Roxio Drag To Disc or Nero InCD. Using this method, you first format the CD, then it can be used just like a big floppy.

thanks for that, Andy, 'my way' was assuming packet writing - which is easier, but I should say that I found problems can occur if you format a disk with 'say' roxio & then try to write to it with 'for example' nero

Re: hello

Yep, I could see you were talking about packet-writing, but I wasn't sure what the OP was using.

Interesting about the Roxio/Nero issue though. Not ran into it myself as I've only employed Roxio for packet-writing, but it's worth remembering. Thanks for that.
