Recording TV

DTV via Samsung STB.........

At present I record to tape[vhs],,thus poor[ish] quality..

Is there any way,,,TV card ?,,,that I can record to my HD on the PC??
Either before,,after,,or without the STB,,or is it not possible to record cable to PC in any shape or form,,which is what I am lead to believe..

A HD/DVD recorder is not a [financial] option at present...

Cheers....

A TV card for your PC is the answer, but consider that you also need a reasonable sized hard disk to store the recordings.

An analogue based card will accept an RF (coaxial) cable feed from the STB. Alternatively, for better quality more advanced cards will utilised the s-video for the picture and a separate audio for the sound. That may mean you aquiring a scart to s-video/audio lead to facilitate your connections.

hi tabatha - it is perfectly possible to use a TV card to record from the STB to your hard disk.

you can get internal or external versions, although personally I would go for internal.

Quality-wise it depends on your PC - a decent one capable of recording at a high bit rate will give better than VHS quality, but don't expect too much.

A google on 'tv card' will give you some options

<edit> and wot he said ^^^^^
