Strange problem

Hello all well lets start the tale.

Today come back from a driving lesson, and went to talk to friends online on MSN, the net was dead nothing rebooted the SACM still nothing rebooted pc still nothing, even run all the spyware checks and virus checks still nothing.

So on brink of having to format, I checked my services.msc now I tweaked these over 2month ago, and have had no problems, I update my pc when I choose and the last update was a long while back, plus this is a fully legal copy of Xp home which came on this pc with service pack 2.

So I enabled a few services I disabled about 2month ago and now after a reboot again I am back online.

How come after 2month of reboots shutdowns etc, does today it hang my internet and refuse to connect me until I enabled them again?

As for which sevices I know I re-enabled application gateway services, and a few remote ones and the tcp/ip one. Also the background intelligent transfer service.

Very strange, but at least I am back online.

Let me guess, you disabled DHCP and your current IP lease expired.

I thought IP lease's expired in a 24hour period so I have a new ip?

Nope you can get some very long lease periods, I've seen lease expirations of 1 month before.

Blimey it could explain it, was getting the pc ready to be formatted as I have been doing some heavy modifications with it to make it run that little bit faster was scared I really buggered something up.
