Clearing temporary internet files

I reloaded Windows a couple of weeks ago. All seems to be well, other than it takes up to 5 minutes to clear my temp internet files, sometimes it takes two or three attempts as it just stalls.

Any theories as to cause and possible solutions?

Re: Clearing temporary internet files

You could reduce the amount of space reserved for them.

Re: Clearing temporary internet files

The settings button, which should be on the same page as the delete files button.

Re: Clearing temporary internet files

Often IE can seem to "stall" or hang if the temporary internet files folder is huge - which I suspect it will be on a clean install. 100MB is sufficient IMHO.

Re: Clearing temporary internet files

Thanks. It's set to 2442 at present, what would you recommend for a good setting? By reducing it's size what do I lose in terms of performance?

Re: Clearing temporary internet files

Not a lot to be lost performance wise while you are on BB. I only use a 5Mb temp file on my pc.

Re: Clearing temporary internet files

I set it to 100MB, always. It's a cache - ideally should be small. So far as I know, IE just overwrites the older files when the limit is reached.

Re: Clearing temporary internet files

Thanks for that, I wonder if that was why when I logged on to the NTL hell site, it kept seeing me as a guest even though I was logged in....hmmm, very odd, oh well, not to worry.
