That has got to be the most stupid idea ever.

Has it not occured to them that if they do this kind of thing BB will end up dead in the UK?
What about kaiser Blairs primise for the UK to be the best BB country in Europe? is this really how he see's things
developing?

The british people probably wouldnt stand for much more in the way of congestion charges, be it BB access or Car charges.
What we want is lower cost faster speeds not a pay as you go service we ALL thought we left behind with Dial up.

It really depends on how the charging is worked out. While I am opposed in principle to the internet being sold as a commodity like a kilo of apples, as a user who has BB largely for fast surfing and email, and occasional system patches/upgrades, with no p2p or gaming at all, I can't help thinking I'd be better off ...

I don't mind £25 a month for my 600k though; it's so much better than dial-up even just for surfing.

It might be acceptable if there was a light-user scheme a la BT for only the most occasional of users, taking the form of a monthly rebate for those who use less than a certain amount. Conversely, I would be happy to see high-user surcharges imposed on only the biggest bandwidth hogs. This way, we would avoid an all-out metered service but might curb the excesses of those who hog the network.

Alternatively there could be some kind of peak/off-peak scheme which would allow for the fact that very heavy bandwidth usage at 3am is far less intrusive on the surfing of others than it would be at, say, 7pm.

However it's implemented, it needs careful thought and planning by any ISP wanting to take this approach.

Which means we're screwed.

regardless of usage etc I prefer having a fixed fee... MUCH easier to plan around.
Which is also why I use talk unlimited 24

this is an absolute travisty i have always said that pay per mb will be sneaked in and that trend will start with a company introducing it i dont know which company it will be but others will follow suit

bandwidth is a premium and a fixed fee service has always and still is viable i mean look at NTL'S position its one of there more profitable parts of there business and even with the huge amount of bandwidth being used.......

as a consumer of broadband services i am happy with the service level/quality i recieve and NTL still make a profit so everyone is happy why change ?

competition is a good thing and in my area ADSL and NTL are the 2 forms available but NTL are still comptetative for speed and pricing wise and i choose to continue using the service with them as i am extremely happy with the service i have and still recieve which is excellent on the broadband side and due to the fixed fee for 1mbit obviously i want higher speed services on the same fixed fee system but we all know its costly and will happen when its finanacially viable and enough demand is there.....

you cant kill p2p its always going to be there in some shape or form its the reason why mainly people use broadband for faster browsing and downloads some uploading too

you are going to seriously tell me that a person on 1mbit is only using the service to download email faster and browse the web faster yeh right !!!
