Re: Windows XP Pro x64 Compatibility List
Many thanks for your varrious suggestions, I do not have a cure but I now have a better understanding of the problem.
Firstly as I have always run with an USB connection I had not realised that no driver was required if I used an ethernet cable.
The computer came with a CD WinFast (NF4UK8AA) used for setting up what I can loosly describe as internal peripherals such as built in sound card etc and most importantly ethernet networking.
When I look to the available harware list I find these are unavailabe and I must use the CD that came with the computer to set them up, so far so good!
When I put said CD in I am told it is incompatable so I guess I must have words with NVIDIA !

Re: Windows XP Pro x64 Compatibility List
You can find the NForce unified drivers here. Not quite sure which NF4 board you have, but I'm sure you'll be able to locate the correct bundle.

Re: Windows XP Pro x64 Compatibility List
If it is not broken don't fix it!
attempting to run on a 64 bit system throws up many problems most of which could be cured by the expenditure of perhaps £200.00 but I don't really see the need at the moment.
These programs will not run,
Tuneup (64 bit version on the way)
Snitch (porn pic detector)
Acronis (CD writer)
Photoshop
Wxsat (weather sat picture input)
Spider (screen shot save)
Bitware (my favourite FAX tool)
DN-ATI (best for my 70 Hz monitor)
Word (won't read my archived correspondents)
This hardware won't run
Sigma Magic Hollywood (used for TV test card generation)
TV card
Win fast soft modem (needed to send FAX)
3c905-combo (needed for my LAN to MAC computer and printer)
I have seen discussion of all these problems on various forums and know solutions to some of them may be in the the pipeline but for the moment I am happy to stick with 2000 Professional
Lastly I have just found out that when I operate my Ambit 35100 modem via an ethernet connection it generates rf interference on the 137.500 mHz weather satellite channel

Re: Windows XP Pro x64 Compatibility List
One Problem cured, I have cut off the connector on the ethernet cable and soldered the connections directly onto the circuit board of the AMBIT 35100 modem and now it no longer genrerates radio interference on 137.5 MHz

Well you seem to know what you are doing.......
I'm on 64 bit xp pro.......it's great but I don't have anywhere near the software/driver issues you seem to be having. Keep working at it m8! You can sometimes get stuff to run by installing it on a 32bit machine and copying it over to your 64 bit one (zingles idea)

Re: Windows XP Pro x64 Compatibility List
Gear have Beta XP64 drivers up. http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.cfm .
If you have any software that uses these drivers, and so won't work properly in XP 64 (iTunes being a particular culprit), have a look at those.

Re: Windows XP Pro x64 Compatibility List
The edimax 54g and 54g MIMO Xr cards based on the RALINK chipset have x64 drivers available.
Infact it looks like the drivers come direct from Ralink, the 64bit driver doesnt have the utility but the one bundled with the 32bit driver works with the 64bit driver as well. (if you want to use it that is, i did becuase i have the mimo card it lets me look at the signal strength on both recieve antennas)

Re: Windows XP Pro x64 Compatibility List
doesnt windows have a 32 bit compatbility mode like freebsd has?
or does everything you run have to be compiled for 64bit?
also how much performance difference is there? since one thing I noticed is my amd64 is supposed to do hardware DEP but isnt so I guess it needs to be running xp 64 to utilise that. Another thing holding me off is I need to get a new xp licence.

Re: Windows XP Pro x64 Compatibility List
x64 uses WoW windows on windows which is kinda emulation but drivers have to be compiled or modified for x64

Re: Windows XP Pro x64 Compatibility List
No, XP with Service Pack 2 can utilise hardware DEP.
XP 64 can run 32bit programs. It can't use 32 bit drivers though.

Re: Windows XP Pro x64 Compatibility List
One thing I have found. Adobe Premiere Pro 2 and Encore 2 don't work properly with Xp64. Basically, the "Export to DVD" option in Premiere won't work, and Encore can't output to DVD.
You may also find that installing encore disables any CD/DVD drives you have.
Still, I found a fix..
1) Fire up Regedit.
2) Go to the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}"
3) Delete a value called "Lower Filters".
4) Reboot.
