XP theme changing problems

I am currently on the "windows classic" theme.
However, when i try to change to the "Windows XP" theme, a box appears saying "Please Wait", and the screen fades to black and white (just like when clicking Log Off), and the PC just locks up.
On another user account on this PC, the Windows XP theme works fine, it's just on this account that it will not load.
When i press the reset button after it locks up, after XP loads, i get the "Windows XP" theme's background ("Bliss") but not the correct taskbar.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me, please?

Re: XP theme changing problems

not yet, that's going to be a last resort due to the sheer amount of time it will take to restore all the programs and folders that are only in this user account.

Maybe i can download some more themes? (i can find plenty of sites that offer this, but i'm not sure which ones can be trusted)

Another problem is that it's a Time PC (don't say a word! ) therefore i don't have a windows XP disc to perform a repair of system files.

Re: XP theme changing problems

a word

lol sounds like a uxtheme.dll ( the file which controls the themes ) is nuffed, runa google for uxtheme.dll patcher. this will mod the xp file to allow downloaded themes to run.

Its simple to install and best one is from Neowin. Click patch await xp to ask to repair click cancel, then click finish on the patcher reboot and you can mod away.

Re: XP theme changing problems

so is there any good sites for themes that you don't have to download a program for the themes? if so can anyone suggest any.

I used to have windowblinds but it cause so many hassles.

I would just like to download a theme, and run it from windows, not another program.

Re: XP theme changing problems

I dont use a program to change my themes, I use the method above.

Top site I use, best visited in firefox due to popups.

www.themexp.org

word of caution, on first click on anything it trys to download a .exe which is spyware full if you dont decheck everything, cancel it and keep tryin the download link, you will get a .zip file then .
