Question home network problem

hi, im new to cf and need some help if possible.
my son wishes to set up a wireless home network so he can play on-line games upstairs, and we can use the internet downstairs. we have a ntl home 120 cable modem, connection speed 300k.
pc downstairs is a pb imedia 5118 running xp sp2, upstairs pc is a hp pavilion mx 70 running xp sp1.
he has purchased a belkin wireless router 802.11g f5d7230uk4, and 2 belkin wireless desktop cards 802.11g f5d700uk.
the problem is the ntl usb cable does not fit into the belkin router as it a completely different connection.
so do we need to get 1: a different usb cable.
2: switch to ethernet.
3: are belkin products not compatible with a ntl home
120 cable modem.
4: if that is the case which product would be the
most compatible for our modem
any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: home network problem

connect the modem to the router with the ethernet cable rather than the USB cable your trying to use

im assuming that the NTL HOME 120 modem has an ethernet port, my NTL HOME 200 certainly does both

BTW

Re: home network problem

The wireless cards you have will give the PC's you install them in access to the wireless router. Having access to the router which is connected to the modem via an ethernet cable will ensure that the PC's have access to the modem and therefore the internet via the router

All you need extra to what you have is the ethernet cable to connect the modem to the router

check to see if you got an ethernet cable with the modem whn it was installed. NTL left me with both a USB cable and an ethernet cable

Re: home network problem

Turn everything off, plug the CM into the router and switch the CM on wait for the RDY light to come on then the Router wait for that to boot up. Thats the network set up. You can then connect the pCs wireless or by ethernet cable into the router. That should be all you need to do, except secure the wireless network.
