Sigh!New CDWriter not recognised.HEEEELP!!
I have just got my new Iomega CDRW.It's this one here .It should work with my USB 1.1 connection(although there was a message that it wouldn't work as efficiently unless I installed a 2.00 USB controller).
Which it did for 5 minutes. Then I placed a CD in it and it worked fine. The second CD went cranky and everything froze.I had to reboot and now I can't get my new installation of XP to accept the Iomega CDRW.
Can anyone help me out of this mess?Pretty please?
Coggy.

Re: Sigh!New CDWriter not recognised
First thing I would try is to unplug the usb connector, then reboot, then plug it back in & see if it gets recognised.
Otherwise the only other thing I can think of is to uninstall everything & re-install...
- not having XP or an external CDRW I don't really know what else to suggest, although using Win98se I have found that some devices will work via a usb hub, but not plugged in directly??? - that may be a complete 'red herring', but I believe it's to do with the hub somehow managing to handle the power requirements for the devices, better.
- hope you get it sorted, Incog

Re: Sigh!New CDWriter not recognised
try different ports - also if u have other usb devices switch em around sometimes usb gets upset ive seen a few pcs get upset when a usb mouse and webcam where plugged in and only one would be recognised putting the other one on the last usb port would normally solve the issue
its a funny old world

Have you downloaded the latest driver for the Iomega ?

You mean upgrade the USB port entirely?

Re: Sigh!New CDWriter not recognised
just buy a 2 or a 4 port USB PCI Card.
I bought a Belkin 2 port one and it was cheap, but it does its job.

Re: Sigh!New CDWriter not recognised
Well now! The saga continues!
I've tried twice to format a new disc.Twice it has decided to pack it in and tells me I need to format the disc.I thought that was what I was doing.I'm not THAT dumb.I know I have to format a brand new disc.So why does it keep telling me it needs to reformat?
Now it's done it for the third time.
What am I doing wrong.I thought if I got away from Roxio things would get better.

Re: Sigh!New CDWriter not recognised
I'd definitely try a USB_2 card if you can get one.
I use the same Iomega CDRW and never had any problems.

Re: Sigh!New CDWriter not recognised
Well I tried a 4th time.I got another unformatted disc but before I began I disabled the screensaver and unplugged from the net(incase of my AV updating). This time it got beyond the 8% of the previous three attempts to 34%.
Is there something running on this pc that keeps upsetting things I wonder?
I wonder what it might be?

Re: Sigh!New CDWriter not recognised
OKaaaay!
Is there any CD burning software out there that is truly the bees knees and does precisely what it is supposed to do without any ifs and damned buts?
I'm so fed up with this.
