Is it expensive to keep computer running?
How expensive is it on the electricity bill, per week, is it if I keep my computer online 24/7?

Re: Is it expensive to keep computer running?
Monitor on or off? Whats plugged into the USB ports?
The quick answer is to work it out from the Ah or Watt ratings of all the devices.

Re: Is it expensive to keep computer running?
I always turn off VDU and speakers and peripherals except my mouse and keyboard.
Yes, I could work it out, but I don't know the price of raw electricity per kWh. Anybody know or have a rough idea?

Re: Is it expensive to keep computer running?
well 40W isnt a great deal. If you assume between 5 and 7p per KWh your not going to be far off.

Re: Is it expensive to keep computer running?
P = IV
P=400W V=230
Therefore I=P/V = 400/230 = 1.73A
But thats irrelivant
You buy by the KWhr. You will be using up to 400W so .4 of a Kwhr each hr.
You are likely to use all first tier priced electricity elsewhere in your house.
British Gas second tier electricity is 6.5p KW/hr inc Vat
6.5*.4=2.6p/hr
*24=62.4p day
*7=£4.36 /week
*52=£227/year
However that assumes the PSU is working flat out and you are paying for your electricity cash. Its probably nearer 1/4 of that, say 100W on idle, HDDs not spinning, etc.
So £56 a year

huh??? wasnt it a 40W power supply
so on the assumption it is drawing 40W all the time
365*24*40*0.065/1000 = £22.77 per annum. making the same assumption of 25% of full power = £5.69 per annum

To be honest, yes, that sounds more realistic.

I think the PSU is probably a 400W one not a 40W one (a typo) A standard PSU for a Pentium V is 350W, The one powering my Celeron system is 175W (I think). A laptop draws around 90W, so 40 W would barely run any Motherboard.
