How to get back into my mailbox?

Before I left for the summer at college, I exported my entire exchange mailbox from Outlook into a .pst file - it contained my calendar, contacts, inbox etc.

However, when I try and open it up here in Outlook, I get a box saying "file access is denied, you do not have permission to access the file <path to file>".

Does anyone know how I can get back access to my mailbox?

I have administrator's rights to said pst file on this computer and have taken ownership of the file but there is still no difference. I still get denied access.

Thanks.

Re: How to get back into my mailbox?

I have had this problem.

I fixed it by downloading a microsoft utility off the net that converted pst files from one version to another, a consequence of which was that it lost the password protection.

use the pst19upg.exe utility, which is on the TechNet CD-ROMs
Have a google on this I'm sure the genuine article is out there...

Where and what? I'll have to get back to you...
It doesn't ask for a password, just denies access

Where - on my computer, what - a pst file, unless I'm barking up the wrong tree

Trouble is it thinks the user is your old domain qualified username/ password.

Make a backup copy of the pst file and process it with the above utility and it should be OK...

Quote:
This utility was originally designed to upgrade the PST format to version 19. One of the utilities side effects is that it can strip out PST passwords.

Always make a backup of the PST BEFORE using. Since this utility wasn't designed for this purpose, use it to strip passwords at your own risk. There have been instances where the utility has caused damage to a PST.

This is a two step process and requires 3 times the hard drive space that the PST currently occupies.

Instructions for stripping PST passwords:

1. Run: PST19UPG -x filename.pst
This process creates a new file with the name of: filename.psx

2. Run: PST19UPG -i filename.psx
This process creates another new file with the name

Re: How to get back into my mailbox?

Thanks for that! It now works perfectly!

I also have a bunch of .oab files in the backup folder that I copied from college.

Does anyone know what these .oab files are?

Edit - also does anyone know how to grab a copy of the address book off the exchange server and export that to a file?
