Smile D-link versus Linksys.

Seems that everyone slags off the dodgy firmware on the Linksys routers. Have not read a bad word about the D-Link range.
About to get a wireless router, any bad press on the D-Link range?
Any comments?

Re: D-link versus Linksys.

I have a Linksys BEFSR41 router (not wireless).

Been using it to share broadband connection for quite sometime now. Never had any bother from it.

Some reports:-

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/dlink

It was good of Linksys (CISCO) to release new firmware for 3 year old boxes recently. It was not good that they didn't bother to test it first!

Re: D-link versus Linksys.

I have a Linksys BEFSR41v2 router and never had any problems with it. The firmware is fine aslong as you read and download the correct one. Had my linksys for over 2 years now and still working well.

Re: D-link versus Linksys.

I've got a D-Link ADSL modem. Not had any problems with it. Easy to set up. I'm happy with it. Have a netgear router. No problems with that either.

Re: D-link versus Linksys.

I use a D-Link DI804V wired router. Works fine for me.

I did initially get a D-link DI604 but that had an incompatibility problem with ntl's STBs. But D-link did do me a free upgrade, as the problem wasn't publicised.

Highest Encryption settings and MAC address filtering to name a few.

Highest encryption tends to degrade netwrok performance though, I normally reccomend 64Bit WEP and as much windows security as you can manage (you'd be supprised how hard a windows accound can be to break into, anyone who somehow gained access to my network would need to be administrator to see any of my personal data)

I've just got a D-link DSL-G604T router on the recommendation of Xaccer and its great, had a few problems setting it up, but that was me being dumb and Windows XP being a pig.

Still not got WEP sorted (my AXIM jsut won't connect if it on), but have got MAC filtering on so I'm not that bothered at the moment.

Great little machine, but does run a little warm, no more than an Ntl STB though so I don't worry, they never caused me any trouble, I cant see why this would

All in all, a nice bit of kit

HTH

There are some good opinions (from page 3 on) here too : http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...uter%2A+choice

I use a linksys WRT54G wireless router - bought it to replace a Linksys BEFSR41 and netgear WAP combo.

Works great - even on my Axim - although the Axim, and my Wife's Laptop only support 64bit WEP - whereas my laptop running linux works under 128 bit

I have configured a couple of D-Link setups, and they seem pretty easy - so I would suggest that you "follow your heart" - I only chose linksys because they are now owned by Cisco
