Word & IE

The other day I went to download a word document from a website within IE. I was distracted and accidently caught automatically open when clicked or something like that.
I always used to click the link and it would ask me what I where I would like to save it to and I have lost the option. How do I get it back because it is a right pain.

Tools>Internet Options

Choose 'Advanced' tab, and click 'Restore Defaults' should fix it I think.

I get sick of right clicking. I just want to be able to click it and save it. I'm gonna try one more thing then if not I'll just keep right clicking and save target as.

Re: Word & IE

My Computer... Folder Options... File Types tab

Find Microsoft Word Document and click "Edit"

"Confirm open after download" - check the box

The "problem" is with Word not IE - that's what happens when you tightly integrate your applications like MS does. No one can find the options

[Note the instructions are for 98SE - XP might differ.]

Re: Word & IE

To change the above in XP/2000

Go to control panel and double click on folder options

Click file types tab

Find the "Microsoft Word Document" file type. Also you might like to do the same for word templates, excel files etc.

Click the advanced button when you have selected your file type

Tick the confirm open after download box

Click OK

If you are finished then click close. If you want to do more then repeat the above find file type etc.

Note that if you reinstall Office or apply any service packs or patches this option will be reset and it will open in IE again when you click on it. Typical Microsoft software

Seems a sensible place to put the Folder Options rather than as a fairly hidden menu option. Microsoft doing something right huh
