Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro problems
The drivers for this are buggy as hell.
I recently installed the EAX4 driver update from the CD of Colin McCrae 04 and since then, it's been driving me crazy.
The main problem is that in the night I'll select the headphones setting in the speaker selection but whenever I try to set it back to 7.1 the next day the selection list is totally blank, it's the same story in the THX setup console too.
I'd rather not just leave it on 7.1 when using headphones because I'll miss a lot of the sounds when playing games, so I'll never notice someone creeping up behind me!
Does anyone know where the value for the number/type of speakers is stored in the registry?
The Creative knowledge base is no help, it only has one article!
EDIT: I'll just add that the headphones setting restricts the frequency range so anything played through normal speakers on this setting sounds really bad.
That's why it's so annoying.

I've not installed the driver update, in fact, I wouldn't touch CMR4 with a sticky pole, but I do the same as you, i.e. set it to headphones at night and then back the next day, works perfickly. I'd remove all the drivers and reinstall them and forget anything codemasters want you to install (until they release OFP2 )

I had trouble with the latest drivers as well.
If you still want the directory values let me know.

Re: Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro problems
OK, I've uninstalled the drivers that came with the soundcard and download/installed a newer version from scratch (but not the newest ones) which include EAX 4.
It seems to be working ok for now but if I get more problems I'll try the newest ones.
Thanks guys.
Just FYI Bifta, the EAX 4 update on the CD was not written by Codemasters, it's a proper Creative driver, which just saved me from downloading it.

Re: Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro problems
I had to do the same to stop the horrible popping/crackling noises on CoD

Tsch. I know that I'm waiting for the ZS compatible KX project drivers:

Useless for gaming but excellent for music production.

Re: Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro problems
Does the ZS have headphone detection like the audigy 2 platinum ?
(Settings under creative audio hq)
As i've got it and its darn usefull, when i plug headphones into the livedrive thingy it auto kicks eax and mixer settings to headphone mode, unplug them and it goes back to normal :-)
It would be such a shame if they've got rid of that :-s

Yes it does have it, it's in the AudioHQ under Device Controls.

Re: Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro problems
I hope someone can help me. I have Audigy 2 Platinum ZS Pro, and everything was working fine until I installed the latest drivers. Then, as if by magic, the volume kept changing BY ITSELF. I finally thought I'd write to Creative to get some help, and they gave me instructions on uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling... well, then all hell broke loose. I now cannot get the sound card to work AT ALL. No matter what I try, and even though WinXP claims to have found X pieces of new hardware, I get no sound. I even tried taking the card out physically and putting back in a different PCI slot after uninstalling the drivers as best their installation CD would allow, but still the same nothing.
Any ideas?

Re: Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro problems
I must just be lucky, I've not had any problems with Creative drivers (at least, no problems that weren't caused by me being stupid)

Re: Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro problems
The best thing to do with this is to install the drivers from the install disk that came with your Audigy 2 ZS, then to update them using the Creative web update ON THE US WEBSITE.
You will find that it will then work OK. The UK site does not show any updates and you MUST make sure that you get the update done automatically from the US site at http://us.creative.com/support/downl...DspLangID=1033.
Select the section on the left that says software Autoupdate.

Re: Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro problems
I dont know if you guys already know this as well - but...
You can actually install the Audigy 2 ZS drivers on an Audigy 2 system. All you need is a copy of the ZS driver disk which is available if you hunt for it.
This will then give you all the apps and the THX console and believe me when i say this - it DOES sound better.
