CD Printers

Can anyone give me an idea of which printers will print on to CD's directly? Like the Epson one's that come with a tray etc. I'm having an arse of a time finding one at a reasonable price :|

Cheers, I've just bought an Epson R300 from Viking-direct (free next day delivery) for just over 100 notes, got rave reviews for print quality.

Re: CD Printers

I've bought one for work, which is based on the Epsom, but has been savaged by a company called Copytracks (http://www.copytrax.co.uk)

It's a little heath robinson, and isn't that cheap for home use, but it does produce excellent results.

Word to the wise, you do need to have inkjet printable CDs, which do cost a little more than your regular ones.

You also need to 'set' the disc after printing, using special spray glue type stuff, so the inks don't run.

I think this one was about £280 (Matiesse Gold).

The best option is the Epsom, as it's part of the package, and should be fine for occasional use. I've seen them for around 80-90 quid.

Cheers, I've just ordered an Epson R300, I'll probably just use decent blank labels on the media before printing

Re: CD Printers

Once you've taken into account the cost of the blank labels, I think it's still cheaper per disc to buy injet printable ones. Most labels work out at about 15p to 20p each.

There's a whole load out there. At work we use HHB ones becuase they're pro, and we get them for less than 30p a unit (mind you we do order 10,000 at a time!) but they're as good as you're likely to find. There are cheaper options available. Verbatim also do a printable surface disc, and I've seen these but not tested them.... http://www.ishop.co.uk/ishop/883/shopscr206.html where they're about 27p a disc.

The big advantage of printing onto disc rather than labels, is that many labels cause compatability issues when playing, particularly with slot inserts and in high speed drives. The labels can cause inbalanaces causing read errors, plus in some cheaper cases the labels will peel off, or the chemicals in the glue can damage the disc.

Re: CD Printers

I've got an Epson R300, it's a great printer! I buy printable cds though because it does work out cheaper (£18.99 for 100 for Dabs.com) The printer only cost me £64.99 to, I was just in the right place at the right time
