Strike a Light Guv!, Londoners to get WiFi lampposts?

Found this article in MicroMart this week (issue 795, April 15th 2004)

The bright sparks at Last Mile Communications are gearing up to revolutionise the Wi-Fi telecoms world with their latest nationwide network of WiFi transmitters hidden deep inside the humble lamp posts, but only if you live in London.

The bright idea could see as many as 150,000 lampposts outfitted with low power data transfer systems, transforming the public pavement into an electronic information highway without the need for extensive roadworks and cable laying activities. Well, that's a bonus at least!

We're sure they can shed a little light on this at http://www.lastmilecoms.com/

It sounds a good idea but will it ever take off?
