But then there's the argument that it should start off in a fairly minimal state, i.e. it should only associate itself with realmedia files and only load itself when it is called, rather than requiring the user to wage war with the preferences...especially if they are not computer savvy.
I can't find it again, but I read a letter from someone who was on the Real team for programming RP. He was basically pretty peed off as the developers/designers had produced a wonderful player, and then the marketing people etc got involved and RP ended up as the messy piece of software we get today. Fundamentally there's nothing wrong with real media, it's just the player that's the issue.
