Is It Legal .... ( fifa 08 )

Hi all i wonder if anybody can help me my son bought the Ps3 version of Fifa 08 today from Gameshop here in manchester and its not the european version its the asian region 3 version NTSC .... is it legal for that shop to sell this and does he have the right to take it back tomorrow and demand either the proper uk version or get a full refund ?

anybody have any ideas on this ?

I would suspect it's just a mistake during delivery to the store and the sales person didn't notice. If a Region 3 disk doesn't play on your son's PS3 you're well within your rights to take it back and demand the Region 2 PAL version. The sale of goods act says goods have to be 'fit for purpose' so if it doesn't work you have grounds for a refund or replacement.

Just a bit of extra info i should have said it does work on our 2 ps3,s but the online bit does not seem to work correctly and i suspect its connecting to asian players rather than english or european players online would this be possible if this game is region 3 ?

It could be that it's hard wired to connect to an asian server. Take it back and get the Region 2 version. Unless you were told it was the Region 3 version when you bought it, you are well within your rights to return it and be given the correct version. Don't take any nonsense from them that the packaging has been opened (or some such rubbish) it's not fit for purpose.

Was it new or second hand?

All PS3 games are region free and will work on consoles from any country.

However the online doesn't always work as they will sometimes try to connect to the servers in the country the game is from.

Most UK stores will not take foreign games as trade ins but I think there are now a few exceptions due to the console being region free.

The game was New he paid £ 44.99 and was never told it was region 3

If it's a reputable shop you shouldn't have any trouble, the sales of goods act is you friend in cases like this. Let us know how you get on.

Could just have been a mix up from the suppliers or they have bought them cheaper.

However they usually state on the box thats its not to be sold outside these areas.

To be honest i dont think it would have been a mix up as this shop is also selling the new dualshock controller that he imported from japan this is what he told my son as my son could see them on display , he was selling these for £50 so they told me yesterday so i am sure the guy in the shop knew that this fifa game was not meant for u.k , anyway i shall soon be going down to the shop to get my sons money back !

So I take it this gamestop is an independent store and not anything to do with the high street chains?

In this case that'll be why he is selling imported goods.

Just got back in and yeah i got the game swapped for the correct version , the guy said he was shocked to know that it was a import version , i will just have to take his word for it as he never gave me any hassle about swapping for the correct game ! and i saw the imported dualshock ps3 controllers so maybe he did know .. who knows , my son has learned a lesson to check what he has bought in future !
