HDMI & optical
Hi All
I have HDMI connection from PS3 to my Sony HDTV- all works fine.
I also have optical cable from PS3 to AV receiver and surround sound speakers.
Sometimes I want to listen from TV speakers, sometimes from the AV speakers.
In the settings I can get it to output sound from either HDMI or optical, but I don't seem to be able to get it to output from both at once. Is there a trick to this please?
C.

Re: HDMI & optical
****, that's what I suspected.
So, am I now looking at purchasing a new receiver with HDMI inputs/output, or is there a splitter/converter that I could get?

Re: HDMI & optical
Have you got an input on your av amp from the tv itself?
It would then feed the amp with your ps3 hdmi signal giving you the choice of av speakers or tv speakers.
Not as good as the optical but would work.

Re: HDMI & optical
Yeah, got an optical output on the TV... but it only outputs digital TV!
Got stereo analogue output too, which is OK, but feel like I've made a backwards step because (now I'm using my PS3 as my DVD player) I can't watch a DVD/BluRay and listen with my Dolby Digital/DTS setup!

Re: HDMI & optical
I have a similar set up - xbox 360 which I use as main dvd player too (not hdmi) but optical to av amp and tbh, would not use it (or wii) without av amp.

Re: HDMI & optical
A bit off topic, but you lot might be able to help.
If i buy a PS3 and want to hook it up via HDMI how do i do it because my HD TV already has Virgin V+ hooked up via HDMI ?
Can i have V+ and PS3 both hooked up to a HD ready TV ?

Re: HDMI & optical
I have a anologe stereo feed from my TV > surround sound amp but thanks to prologic2 I can still get surround sound on SKY and PS3/Xbox360
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prologi...y_Pro_Logic_II
We only have a cheapo surround-sound Decoder (its a goodmans paid £40 delivered for it inc the speakers/sub) that has 1 Digital coax feed and several stereo inputs and it works surprisingly well on the Stereo inputs, Since its only the DVD thats hooked up to the digital in all I have to do is hit "surround" on the remote and the console plays in surround-sound

Re: HDMI & optical
Hello Peeps..
I have a query which has been bugging me for some time.. I have recently bought a Samsung 37" LE37R87BDX/XEU HD Ready Freeview Widescreen LCD TV (It has three HDMI Ports). I have also bought a £40 HDMI cable not realising that i cannot get my 5.1 set up on my newly purchased xbox 360 as there is no optical in.
Is there anyway, that people know that i can set this up so i can enable HDMI and create an optical link to activate the dolby surround 5.1?
Many thanks,
Frustrated...

Re: HDMI & optical
So you do actually have a 5.1 amp then?
The 360 doesn't have an actual optical output... If you are using HDMI, then you need the "optical audio dongle" which comes with the 360 Elite or the official Xbox 360 HDMI cable. [the VGA, component, and RGB SCART leads for the 360 have an optical output on them, however the multi-AV end of the cable obscures the HDMI socket].
btw, £40 for an HDMI cable really isn't necessary.

Re: HDMI & optical
Can anyone recommend a decent HDMI and TOSLink switch for use with an upscaling DVD player & the V+ box?
Seen this HDMI switch on Amazon, but the TOSLink switches all look a bit plasticky.
Is there such a thing as a combined switch at a reasonable price? I've heard Octava do one, but that's £200...
