The ntl console service is £2.00 per month added to your standard broadband bill. All that does is gives you 2 IP addresses instead of one and in some cases a small switch allows 2 separate ethernet connections one to PC one to console. Not sure if it just applies to Cable Modem not STB users though.
Many users will, in the long term, find it cheaper to buy a router.
