Re: Pipex-xbl
In what way is PIPEX better than NTL?
Correct me if I'm wrong but the decision is based on at least two areas Customer Services and the Technical package.
I understand that alot of people LEAVE NTL because they become unsatisfied with NTL apparant lack of customer services, when it comes to answer and fixing problems, also incorrect billing is up there high on the list of dissatisfactions.
In regards to what we actually receive as a product, the broadband connection. Well do people have problems with the connection, if so what? and ultimately why? Is it just slow cause they connect using an over subscribed UBR?
What about the technological difference? Cable vs xDSL Other than a stark delivery difference how do these product differ? (to the end user, I'm not asking for an obvious technical difference in the two technologies). Bare in mind that when you go xDSL you'll get a USB modem which will a) suck your system resources dry and b) force you to physically connect every time you turn your PC on. (An option is to buy an always on and powered modem from Linksys/Netgear/Belkin etc.)
Ok, reading this post back, I'm just asking a lot of obvious questions... what I'm trying to get at is....are there people out there who don't know they need to change providers cause of their poor service? How many of use actually perform our own quality checks on the product we buy (connection testing)?

Re: Pipex-xbl
The fact that you can have 512k, with a 256k upload, rather than NTL's 600/125 connection is another bonus

That will be the major plus point for gamers I think.

Re: Pipex-xbl
I've got NTL's 1MB connection which has a 256KB/s upload. Anything else?

Re: Pipex-xbl
If you use your BB connection mainly for gaming, then you are financially better off with a DSL connection.
To get a 256k upload (essential for online gaming), it will cost you (From Pipex anyway) £23.44 per month.
To get the same upload from ntl, would cost you £34.99 per month, as you would have to subscribe to the 1MB service.

thanks Steve, that was basically what I was getting at, the upload speed is 256 with pipex at 25.00 quid, NTL want to charge me 35.00.
haven't had a problem yet with the 600k service, but I would like to host more players.
I wonder if NTL would give me a discount, as I have the tv family pack & the phone ??
might try my luck tonight.

Re: Pipex-xbl
You need a BT phone line - I'm on Ntl for my home phone, otherwise I think Pipex would have had a new customer...
:-(
