Does XBL get slow ?

Hi all,

I bought an Xbox360 a few weeks ago and connected to XBL using a cable to test it out. Everything seemed to be fine i was getting 10mb downloads and no disconnections.

So now i go out and buy a Wireless Linksys WRT54GS router and connect to that using the wireless. However i keep getting disconnected when i try and download a demo after it gets to about 5% it all just stops.

So naturally i thought something was wrong with my wireless connection. I then bypassed the router completely and wired the Xbox directly to my cable modem thinking i would get my normal fast speeds back.

You guessed it!..... Trying to download a 14mb game trailer took me 10 minutes! Ermmm i thought, i better wire the modem directly to my computer and see what my download speeds are like.

Well i can download just fine maxing out my 10Mb using newsgroups and browsing isn't slow, so it seems its just the XBL service thats slow.

So my question is, does XBL go tits up sometime and get very slow or is there something i can fix ?

Thanks in advance.

I think the servers can be overloaded if hundreds (or thousands) try to access the same content at the same time.

I wouldn't worry too much - try again at a different time, and you should be fine.
(Avoid mid-evening - as this is the most popular time)

Re: Does XBL get slow ?

Thanks for the advice. I just played my first game of GPR3 and it seems to play pretty well.

I would imagine that the LIVE service always gives some sort of priority to games being played rather than downloads - as I've not seen any lag issues lately. (Although I understand COD2 may have problems due to the game rather than the network)
