NTL and Xbox

Ok i'm new so lets get all the hello's done, so hi, great site been looking around for a while now, some very useful posts in here, anwsered some questions I didn't even know I wanted to know lol.

On with my question:

Ok I got ntl 10 mb, then router feeds my pc and my xbox,
What i'm after is my upload speed, xbox live works well but the better the upload speed the better it gets, the better it is means I have more chance of getting host which = better games.

If possible can you tell me my upload speed without router connected and with router connected.

coll754, to Cableforum.

Your upload speed should be 512K. We have no way of knowing what your actual speed would be though (with or without router). The best thing I can suggest is to send a large file via FTP (to your webspace for example) and time how long it takes.

Re: NTL and Xbox

You shouldnt need 1MBit upload speed, I cant see what difference it would make to Online gaming?

Re: NTL and Xbox

The reason for needing 1mb is because alot if not all in the US have it
, which means they get host all the time, and host = better games, less chance of lag and puts me on equal terms if they get host.

An example:
I play halo 2 live, host or equal to host can kill with less shots from a gun and fir quicker, with 512k it takes an extra few shots to kill them, so if I started shooting at the exact same time as someone who had 1mb upload speed I would die and they wouldn't.

So change of ISP would be needed then, who can supply that and would it go through a bt line?

Re: NTL and Xbox

Be do 1 Meg upload in theory. http://www.bethere.co.uk

I say "in theory" as there is no guarantee your BT line will be able to handle the speed.

Re: NTL and Xbox

Thanks, thats £24 a month and offers 1.3mb uploads hmm would need some info on these before I start paying my money. Plus when I type my phone number in it says not available untill september 2006, plenty of time to find out how reliable they are.

Thanks guys, helped me alot.

Re: NTL and Xbox

Surely this is unneccessary now given that for the 360 I believe the requirements are just 128kbps upload? The only exception AFAIK is COD2 which is hosted on the host's machine, and it's to be patched to correct this behaviour.

Sorry but how does your upload speed mean that it takes more shots to kill someone. Its your aiming accuracy that determins how quickly someone dies

Re: NTL and Xbox

Agree with Yoda tbh. Especially the difference between 512kbps and a meg, 512kbps is enough to host about 8-10 players on any decently written game, so divide that by 8-10 and youve got the bandwidth required for just you to play said game, ooo dialup, but itd be laggy due to the high latency involved in translating data-sound-data and back but still.
