is it possible?
Is it possible to get online with Xbox Live 360 with:
Xbox 360
Supplied Enet Cable
Ambit 120 CM
1Mb Conn
No Xbox live package with Ntl
Direct Conn from CM to Xbox 360
???????????????????????

Re: is it possible?
Short Answer, yes. You will need to reboot your Cable Modem when you switch the connection from your PC to the X-Box and reverse the method to get it back to your PC.
Thats the short explanation, im sure someone with more experience will correct me on something or give better advice

Thanks mate.
I have been turning the CM off for a minute then conn enet to xbox 360 then booting Cm back.
Waited for Sync & Rdy to lock then started Xbox 360.
Verifies the connection but then fails on IP.
is all set to automatic (due to dhcp) but still fails.
Did once clear IP but then died on DNS.
Tried to specify the DNS but this also failed.....
Any and all help appreciated

Re: is it possible?
Easiest way is to get the MAC address of your Network card in the PC (Physical address) and put that into the Live Dashboard under alternate MAC Address, then you dont have to reboot the modem, just swap the cable.

I have tried to specify my CM Mac in the dashboard (taking it from the base of the CM itself) but this hasn't made any difference sadly

You'll want to clone the MAC of the network card in your PC, rather than the MAC of the CM.
What you want is for the cable modem to think nothing has changed when the cable swaps from your pc to your xbox.
To get the MAC address of your PC's NIC, "ipconfig /all" should do.
If you do this, you can swap the cable without any reboot of the modem, as gooner said.
Anything for an easy life!

I don't have a NIC in my PC.
I use USB from CM to pc then give it a 1 minute reboot during ehich I switch from usb to enet on the 360.
then when the lights stabilise I boot the 360 and get the ip error

Re: is it possible?
Does anyone have any further ideas?
1) All set to Automatic - 360 Off nd have no current Live Subscription.
2) As standard have USb to PC for CM. have no Xbox package with Ntl.
3) Turn off PC and CM.
4) Remove USb and Conn enet cable that came with 360 between CM and 360.
5) Leave all for 1 minute, start Cm and await Sync & Rdy lights.
6) Start 360.
7) Go to test Xbox live Settings and get OK on network then Failed on IP.
Please help, I wanna shoot people

I just ordered this http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/852034 so i don't have to keep unplugging the modem and trailing a cable across my living room each time!
Hope that helps.
[edit]
Also all i did was to unplug the modem from the PC and plug into the xbox 360 and it worked right away. I signed up there and then via xbox live to the free live silver account.I had to reboot the modem to be able to use it with my pc again though.
You really should be using ethernet to connect your cable modem to your PC as USB is considered to be not so good.

Re: is it possible?
I do have an NIC hanging round but just haven't found the time to install it yet
Would this solve the 360 conn issue or should I be looking elsewhere?

Yeah, youre 360 and web browsing should be fine.
Bittorrent may never work again, but hey, you can't have it all.
