problem connecting to xbox live with ntl (xbox not xbox360).

Hi,

My brother finally got Xbox Live for xbox (not 360). He is getting broadband soon but doesnt have it at the moment so asked could he use my NTL 2MB broadband to try it.

I said thats fine.

So (everything off) took ethernet cable out of my PC put in XBOX, switched settop box back on waited for flashing light to stay on then switched xbox on to setup Xbox Live but having problems.

I get to welcome screen -> continue and it says 'Could not connect to Xbox Live do you want to troubleshoot your network connection'

So I say yes and it says:

Network connection - Yes, cable connected,
IP Settings configured,
DNS resolved,
Xbox live not found.

This is what he got:

http://shop.game.net/ViewProduct.asp...212&mid=327511

And also Xbox Live was already on the dashboard when he got the xbox (got it second hand) if that helps.

Any ideas why its saying Xbox Live not found please? Any suggestion what problem is, how to fix it - would appreciate.

Regards,
Phil.

If you're using a Direct Connection with Set top box, then this should help with the DNS not resolved:-

Quote:
Direct Connection (STB):

If you get NTL Broadband through a Pace Digital TV Set-Top Box (STB), then it is slightly more complicated.

The STB cannot simply swap between devices with different MAC addresses like an SACM can.

The MAC address of every device you connect to the STB has to be registered using an NTL registration web page.

As the XBox has no web browser, there is no way of registering the MAC address of the XBox. Therefore, you *must* clone the MAC address of your PC's network interface onto the XBox (details in step 3 of the SACM method).

Once you have cloned the PC's MAC onto the XBox, then connection is simple & is similar to using an SACM.

Turn off your PC, & then turn off the STB & disconnect the PC from it. Leave the STB off for about 30secs. Then plug the XBox into the STB (use the cable you use for the PC. Also, whether you use a crossover or straight-through cable depends on the STB model – the STB should have a sticker on the back indicating what type of cable). Turn the STB on & let it boot. Then turn the XBox on, & go to the Live dash & try to connect.

Ok this might sound stupid but it had me for 4 days, try holding your ethernet cables in to your ethernet ports when connecting, try holding one then other one then both if it still has trouble. Mine was playing up, started for no reason, would always get to different stages but never connected, for 4 days I was puzzled, messing with ip settings, dns settings, messed about with router and posted on every live forum I knew of but still no joy, untill one person simple suggested me to push the cables into the ports when trying to connect, if it works you need a new cable. I was furius it was something so simple but soon lost the anger when I started playing. lol

Cool mate cheers I will definitely see if that does the trick tomorrow.

I have my doubts (well only because its the same cable I use for my computers broadband so I know the cable is fine) BUT who knows hell I will try anything so thanks will give it a go!
