xbox live 2 routers and WGA11

hi

having switched to Bt i've now a BT205 router and also my Linksys wrt54g router. Did the necessary research and configured the WRT54G to not use its Dhcp and essentially become a switch. The problem is that the connection to the WGA11 and of course Xbox live, has become unstable. Xbox live will connect np but matchmaking either will not happen or i'll get in to a game for about 5 minutes then the connection will be lost and unable to reconnect without running the troubleshooter wherein the process will repeat.

The only change i've made is to tell the WRT54G to use PPOE (i mean i've used that option but whether its actually using it i don't know) the net effect is that browsing is stronger and media files stream properly without buffering for extended periods - FYI connection is 512

God i miss my 2meg ntl cable.

suggestions welcome, would static ip's help?
