Xbox 360 Opticle Output Problem

Currently using my HD cable and have recently started using my opticle output on my 360 via the cable. My stereo is Aiwa XR-H330MD if it helps.

I can play games just fine and they sound fantastic even if I am using 2 speakers at the moment. However, everytime I try to play a DVD film the sound distorts and sounds like its being scrambled. Is this right ? At first I assumed it was the digiatal audio protection kicking in, but I remember I used to listen to DVD's on my PS2 just fine.

Help Meeeeeeeeeee....

Settings in my 360 dashboard are as follows.

Analog Output = Analog Mono
Digital Output = Digital Stereo

I know my steroe can not decode anything higher then this, but sureley I should be able to playback movies with just basic stereo ? As I say, playing games is fine.

If you are sending a signal that your amp/receiver cannot decode through optical this can happen. Maybe it possibly cannot decode LPCM Stereo?

But why could I use the opticle output on my ps2 with genuine DVD films ? Doe's the 360 do something different to the PS2 ?
