Going Wireless!! Help

Got the lad 360 xbox for crimbo, decided to go for xbox live and went for the wireless option. I'm on the 10mb broadband (cable modem), bought an Edimax 802.11g wireless router. Anyway, is this correct : turned cable modem, router and pc off, turned cable modem back on, waited till all lights stop flashing, connected ethernet cable to modem and wan on the router, then turned on router, waited a while, then turned on pc, everything was ok but noticed that my IP address had changed to192.168.2.1. Is this right.
In the instruction booklet that came with the router, it says once the pc boots up to type in 192.168.2.1 which is the same as my new ip, once I type it in, it takes me to a set up page for the router, I have to select one of these
Dynamic ip
static ip
PPPoE
PPTP
Which one is mine?
Sorry It's so long, but I wanted to give all the facts to enable an answer.

Thanx Daz, just got your reply after two hours messing about with it, in the end I just left all settings to default except the security.
Thanks again for the reply, now on to that gaming, oh I forgot It's my sons.
